genie and i have been traveling extensively in canada. today, we're in quebec, getting ready to enjoy a delicious meal at one of her favorite al fresco eateries. this is a canadian customer known as "le singe sur la table." it requires that the smallest terrycloth guest stand on the table and wait for the other guests to arrive. when all are seated the traditional interpretive dance of welcoming is performed by the terrycloth guest. this is the signal for the waiter to approach the table cautiously with beverages and menus. local customs can be so charming. |
